NEW DELHI, MARCH. 4. India today characterised remarks by the Pakistani authorities, following recent events in Gujarat, an interference in its internal affairs and accused Islamabad of deriving ``propagandist'' advantage from the situation. The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Nirupama Rao, said the Pakistani remarks bordered on exaggeration and fabrications. The spokesperson especially took exception to the observations by Pakistan's military spokesman who accused India of mounting a ``war hysteria'' and held it responsible for the killing of 70,000 Kashmiris. ``These remarks are a reflection of Pakistan's fevered imagination,'' the spokesperson said, adding that Pakistan was ``introducing elements in the scenario that are totally unconnected''. Without ruling out the possibility of a Pakistani hand in the Gujarat violence, she said that there was ``every reason to investigate a larger design in this whole situation''. A probe was all the more necessary on account of the Pakistani agencies' past involvement in terrorist acts in India. On the visit to Pakistan by the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Sushma Swaraj, she said her tour signalled India's commitment to the SAARC process. Ms. Swaraj was expected to leave on March 6.
