`Balayogi's chopper failed to establish radio contact'

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI MARCH. 5. Preliminary investigation by the officials of the Regional Controller of Air Safety here has revealed that the pilot of helicopter that crashlanded in an Andhra Pradesh village, killing the Lok Sabha Speaker, G.M.C. Balayogi, had ``not established radio contact with the Chennai Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower.''

Airport sources here, however, said that as a matter of pre-requirement, the pilot only ``telephonically'' gave details of the flight plan to the Chennai Flight Information Centre (FIC) before departure.
