Cabinet to seek end to President's rule in Manipur

NEW DELHI, MARCH 5. The Union Cabinet today decided to request the President, K.R. Narayanan, to revoke President's rule in Manipur, to allow the formation of a new Government in the State.

President's rule was imposed on June 2, 2001. It is being revoked consequent to the recent elections to the State Assembly.

The Cabinet also approved a policy to promote Indian education abroad and cleared the proposal for setting up of a committee in this regard.

It was also decided to set up an international education cell.

Further, the Cabinet gave its green signal for the signing of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and gave ex-post facto approval for the memorandum of understanding signed with the U.S. for cooperation in the field of environmental protection.

In addition, it gave its approval for extradition treaties with Mongolia and Turkey.
