Samata defends Modi Govt.
By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MARCH 5. The Samata Party today defended Modi Government in Gujarat stating that the Chief Minister had done all that he could to contain violence in the State which did not have the wherewithal to check it in time.

Addressing a press conference after touring Ahmedabad, the Samata leader, Jaya Jaitly, said that in her assessment, the situation in Gujarat may not have turned violent had the ``political class'', including the Opposition, condemned the Godhra incident, just as they had done in the Graham Staines episode.
