According to the police, when the Tiruvannamalai police were checking vehicles on the Chengam Polur Road at Kadaladi on the midnight of Thursday, a Tata Sumo car sped without heeding their signal. They immediately informed the Kalasapakkam and Tiruvannamalai taluk police and the Tiruvannamalai DSP, Lakshmi. When a police party led by the Ms. Lakshmi was waiting at the Anna arch on the outskirts of the town, they spotted the speeding Tata Sumo. Four culprits escaped under the cover of darkness when the vehicle stopped at Sannadhi Street. The police arrested Arjunan (25) and Viswanathan (25) of Kettavarampalayam. Enquiries revealed that the accused went to Bangalore on Wednesday hijacked a Tata Sumo after ejecting the driver and also took a Tempo traveller. They took the vehicles to the factory and stole the oil locking up the security personnel. Abandoning the Tempo traveller at Vaniyambadi, they transferred the oil cans into the Tata Sumo and escaped. The IG (Law and Order), V. Balachandran, Tiruvannamalai SP, Balanagadevi and the Vellore SP, Pramod Kumar, went to Kettavarampalayam in Tiruvannamalai district on Friday night and inspected the stolen cans buried in a house.
