Veerappan's wife springs a surprise

SALEM March 9 . Muthulakshmi, wife of the forest brigand Veerappan sprung a surprise by appearing in the Mettur Judicial Magistrate Court on Friday, to seek birth certificate for her second daughter. Till now, it is believed that the couple had only one daughter Vidhyarani, who has since been moved out of Mettur.

It is learnt that in her petition she had stated that she and Veerappan had got a second daughter Prabha alias Vijayalakshmi, born at Kaveripuram near Mettur in 1992.

Since the local body had turned down her appeal to issue the certificate, Ms. Muthulakshmi moved the First Judicial Magistrate Court at Mettur. The Magistrate, Haridas, posted the hearing on March 8, and accordingly she appeared in the court, accompanied by her lawyer Saravanan.

However, as the Village Administrative Officer was said to have sought time to verify the claim, the Magistrate adjourned the case to March 15.
