Letters to the Editor
Sir, While the attack on the Orissa Assembly by the Sangh Parivar activists deserves the strongest condemnation, has any political party in this country the right to speak about the sanctity of parliamentary institutions like the State Assemblies, Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha? Have not these parties, including the more-than-century old Congress, and the present rulers the BJP, committed sacrilege of these temples of democracy by behaving in the most indecent manner inside these august chambers? And, are they not doing it every passing day throwing all rules and decorum to the winds, forgetting their responsibility to their electors and making a mockery of the Constitution and the law by which they swore before taking office. When they have shown by their unruly behaviour inside the Houses that they have scant regard for discipline and the rule of law, how can they expect others to observe discipline? How can they have the moral right to condemn mobs like the Bajrang Dal ? In Kerala recently , when the Governor was delivering his customary address, the Opposition Leader (the Chief Minister in waiting) was delivering a parallel address. There was turmoil every subsequent day, and the Budget session slated for one month had to adjourn within a fortnight. K.R.V. Nair, Thiruvananthapuram
