Focus on regional tourism at SATTE

By Our Special Correspondent

New Delhi March 30. Regional tourism will be the focus of the South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange's Tourism Mart (SATTE) here beginning on April 18.

It is expected that tourism within the region will grow following a substantial increase in air capacity in recent months. Emirates, Kuwait Airways, Air Mauritius, Malaysian Airlines, Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific and the coming launches of air services from China and Taiwan will provide a new impetus to regional tourism.

"The new look SATTE is being conceptualised as a generic travel and tourism fair with an open business session format. The event is being positioned in New Delhi as a host venue in view of the growing strategic importance of the capital,'' said Navin Berry, chief of SATTE.

During the mart, a one-day seminar will be organised on April 18 on marketing and promotion of intra-regional tourism in Asia.

The secretary-general of the World Tourism Organisation and of the SAARC and eminent speakers from the international tourism community will be present.

The major objective of the seminar will be to do an analysis of the current tourism scenario in Asia, particularly South Asia.
