TIRUPATI: Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, a purificatory ritual performed twice or thrice in the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara as a prelude to major festivities, would be held this time on April 2. As part of the ritual, the interiors of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple would be washed with clean water and smeared with a rich paste made of sandalwood, refined camphor, saffron and such other aromatic material. It would be a preparatory ceremony for the four important festivals that are to follow in the temple, namely, Ugadi, Anivara Asthanam, Brahmotsavam and Vaikunta Ekadasi. In view of the Tirumanjanam, big kalyanotsavam would not be performed in the temple on the day while other rituals would, however, be performed as usual.
