Govt. whip appointed

Pondicherry March 30. P. Rajavelu, elected \to the Territorial Assembly from Bahoor reserved constitutency, has been appointed Government whip and he would take charge on April 1, a communication from the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, said today.

Mr. Rajavelu was elected on a Puduchery Makkal Congress ticket in the last Assembly polls. The PMC as such had subsequently merged with the Congress. The four PMC members who emerged victorious then are: K. Lakshminarayanan (Education Minister), A. Elumalai (Local Administration Minister), Mr. Rajavelu (now government whip) and R. Radhakrishnan.

Mr. Rajavelu was a Social Welfare Minister in 1990 in the then DMK-Janata Dal ministry.
