Telecom services hit after attack on temple

JAMMU MARCH 30. Telecommunication services remained shut down for four hours after an attack by terrorists at the historic Raghunath Temple today. Even local calls could not be made. Commercial STD facility was cut off in the State three months ago.

The Jammu and Kashmir Governor, G.C. Sexana, has condemned the attack on the temple in which many innocent persons were killed and several others injured.

The Governor, in his message, appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony.

The Chief Minister, Farooq Abdullah, also condemned the attack.

Describing the act as most dastardly and inhuman, the Chief Minister said the attack showed the level of frustration in terrorists' ranks who were bent on disturbing peace and tranquillity in the State.

Urging the people to maintain peace, the Chief Minister expressed shock at the civilian casualties.

The Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party chief, Bhim Singh, has demanded the dismissal of Dr. Abdullah for his failure to protect the lives of innocent people.

He called for a Jammu bandh tomorrow to protest against the killings.

The Union Minister of State for Food Processing, Chaman Lal, has also condemned the attack.

The Rajya Sabha MP and Chairman of the Dharmarth Trust which owns the temple, Karan Singh, in a press statement appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony and defeat the designs of those bent upon creating trouble in the State.
