Holi revelry claims one life

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI MARCH 30. A young man died after some chemical was reportedly forced down his throat by a friend while celebrating Holi at Sarai Rohilla in North Delhi on Friday afternoon.

Police on Saturday said Gurjeet, a resident of Shastri Nagar, had gone to his friend Vikram's house to join in Holi revelry.

The two had an argument over a trivial matter following which Vikram allegedly threatened Gurjeet saying if he troubled him again he would force the liquid in a small bottle down his throat. Gurjeet did not pay heed and continued teasing Vikram. Around 2-30 p.m., Vikram made him gulp the liquid in the bottle, though Gurjeet complained that it tasted strange.

After about 20 minutes, Gurjeet fainted. He was rushed to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital and died around 4-30 p.m. Police have sent the viscera to know of the exact composition of the chemical.

Vikram and Gurjeet, both in their mid-20s, were good friends and used to participate in musical programme as DJs at the local level.

``We are yet to ascertain what exactly transpired between the two which led to the incident. However, it seems there was no deep animosity between them,'' said the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Sanjay Baniwal. Police have launched a hunt for Vikram who is absconding and a case of murder has been registered.
