Live-band artiste held on theft charge

BANGALORE MARCH 30. Cubbon Park police have arrested a live-band artiste, Archana Hussain, on charges of theft and robbery. Two mobile phones and other valuables were recovered from her.

Police said that Archana, who sings at "Four seasons" live-band joint on Raja Ram Mohun Roy Road had been Bombay Stores on Mahatma Gandhi Road to have coffee around 8.30 p.m. on Thursday. A well-dressed Archana came to a table where Rumneek Kaur Sodhi was having coffee. Archana allegedly snatched a bag containing a mobile phone and other valuables from Dr. Sodhi and ran away.

Following a complaint by Dr. Sodhi, police arrived at the spot and searched for Archana in the vicinity and found her at the Food World outlet.

Police arrested her and recovered the bag with the valuables intact. During investigation it came to light that Archana had allegedly stolen a mobile phone of Narayani Venkatesh from Bombay Stores, 30 minutes before she snatched the bag from Dr. Sodhi. Ms. Venkatesh's mobile phone was also recovered from the accused.

She had also stolen the wallet of an American tourist who visited Bombay Stores on March 17, police said.

Archana's father is an employee of Port Trust, Kolkata, and she is married to M.D. Hussain, a music band leader, residing in a hotel in Cottonpet in the City, according to police.

Burglary cases solved

The City Crime Branch (CCB) officials have claimed to have solved seven cases of house break-in and theft with the arrest of K. Raja alias Basavaraj (28), a resident of Makali village, off Tukmur Road.

Police recovered 300 gm. of gold ornaments, electronic gadgets, and a motorcycle, all worth Rs. 2 lakh, from the accused who had allegedly committed burglaries in Hennur, Ramamurthynagar, Madivala, and Subramanyapura police station limits in the City.

Held for cheating

The Jnana Bharathi police arrested Anand (25) of Nagarabhavi, and Ashok (31) of Seshadripuram on charges of cheating Mohammed Ali of Bhatkal of Rs. 44,000. Police said that Ali, a bookseller, used to purchase books from Veena Book Stall in Gandhinagar where Anand and Ashok were working.

The duo took Rs. 44,000 from Ali after assuring him that they would get him books from another shop at a higher discount. But they neither supplied the books nor returned the money to Ali, police said.

Succumbs to injuries

A physically-challenged man, Somappa (80), was seriously injured when he was knocked down by a speeding vehicle while he was crossing the Bellary Road near GKVK Campus around 7.10 p.m. on Friday. Somappa succumbed to his injuries at Baptist Hospital late in the night. The Yelahanka police have registered a case.

Man ends life

Sreenivasa (40), a resident of Sreenivasanagar, committed suicide by hanging himself at his house around 4.45 p.m. on Friday. Police said Sreenivasa was drunk when he ended his life. The Hanumanthanagar police have registered a case.
