Theatre artistes plan protest

BANGALORE April 3. The artistes wing of the Kannada Vedike will stage a demonstration in front of the Chief Minister, S.M.Krishna's residence on April 18 in support of their demands.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, the State president of the vedike and former MLA, K. Prabhakar Reddy, said theatre artistes in costumes will also take out a procession and present a memorandum to the Chief Minister. An increase in the annual grants sanctioned to artistes from Rs. 3,600 to Rs. 18,000, increase in the monthly stipend from Rs. 250 to Rs. 1,000, free bus pass facility, and free education for their children, were some of their demands, he said.

The Government should also institute an award for best theatre artistes, Mr. Prabhakar Reddy added.
