The Additional Director-General of Police and Chairman and Managing Director of the KSPHC, R. Sri Kumar, says that since public funds are used for constructing buildings for the police department, the Government is committed to ensuring transparency and providing correct information to citizens. The KSPHC has made available on its website relevant information on the expenditure involved in construction, he adds. By creating its own website and providing information about its activities, the KSPHC hopes to meet the requirement for transparency, and make itself more accountable. For further computerisation, the KSPHC plans to use a technology platform that ensures flexibility, scalability, and inter-operability of systems. Mr. Sri Kumar says the innovative project monitoring system can give the KSPHC, its partners, and other stakeholders instant information regarding the various activities associated with construction. Besides, timely steps can be taken to avoid time and cost overruns associated with construction projects. The website is expected to help provide trusted financial services and logistics support to site engineers. As technology develops, it will be possible to access information through TVs, public kiosks, cell phones, pagers, personal digital assistants, and i-Stations, and from a combination pager/cell phone/PDA-PC device that is being developed. Another innovation thought of by the KSPHC is the "e-POINTBOOK", which is similar to Police Point Book. People who access the website of the KSPHC (www.ksphc.org) can express their views in the e-POINTBOOK. Mr. Sri Kumar says that suggestions in the e-POINTBOOK will be taken into consideration. For those who do not have Internet facility but want to give suggestions about construction projects, the KSPHC is establishing i-Stations. The Web-based project monitoring system is likely to be introduced shortly.
