For March 2003, it is targeting an ambitious growth of over 25 per cent in turnover to Rs.1,934 crores, and physical exports of Rs. 417 crores (Rs. 296 crores), according to A. N. Jagadeeswaran, executive director, BHEL, Hyderabad. Announcing details at a press conference here, he said the order book position for the current year was at a healthy Rs.1,720 crores. The unit was looking for new business avenues in the areas of upgradation of land rigs, refurbishment of work over rigs, steam turbines and compressors for gas transportation, besides new model pumps, heat exchangers and pulverizers for 660 MW capacity. Mr. Jagadeswaran said BHEL was now stressing on IT driven solutions. The corporate office established a separate group for IT with an executive director heading it, and it was looking for a `tie-up' with an IT company. The stress was on solutions for vendor evaluation, e-commerce applications, enterprise resource planning solutions for pilot project of GT (Gas Turbine) business. On the export front, he said , while the market was wary of dumping of cheap imports by China, BHEL exported sophisticated generating equipment to Shenzen Nanshen Power Station Company, China, and generators set for a value of about Rs.103 crores.
