Roads: Talks with Queensland

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE APRIL 5. The Government of Queensland has shown interest in assisting road infrastructure projects in the State on build, operate, and transfer (BOT) basis, and asked the Karnataka Government to identify specific projects, the Public Works Minister, Dharam Singh, has said. Addressing presspersons here on Friday after a preliminary meeting with a delegation from Queensland, headed by its Special Commissioner to India, Mike Ahern, Mr. Singh said the team would visit the State again after a week for further talks. The Government was holding negotiations with the Malaysian Government on a Rs. 320-crore project for the development of the Mysore-Bantwal highway on deferred payment basis. The matter would come up before the Cabinet soon for approval. Referring to the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor, Mr. Singh said the Kalyani group, which had been chosen to take up the project, would start the work by May. The ICICI and HUDCO had already agreed to finance the project which had been cleared by the environment committee, he added.
