Order on choultry to go?

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE APRIL 5. The possibility of the Government reviewing its order to lease out the Krishnarajendra Choultry at Tirupati to a private party is not ruled out. This was indicated here on Friday by the Minister of State for Muzrai, Suma Vasanth, who said the lease order had not been made by her. Although it was dated September 3, 2001, the proposal had been made earlier. According to Ms. Vasanth, the duration of the lease was 15 years, and the monthly payment Rs. 15,000. D. Suryakumar, a resident of Tirupati, had taken the choultry on lease. Asked if the Government would cancel the lease, Ms. Vasant said she would examine it, and consider whether the Government could improve the choultry and manage it to provide better service to pilgrims. A delegation of employees had met her to discuss their problems, such as non-payment of salary, and the possibility of them losing their jobs following leasing of the choultry. She had appealed to them not to go on strike, and sought a fortnight to redress their grievances.
