This is in response to complaints from consumers that demand notices were not served in time. Earlier, the deadline was March 31. In a circular issued on Friday, the board said low-tension consumers could make their remittances, in lumpsum or instalments, according to their convenience. The payments would be accepted at cash counters. Of a total 1.4 crore consumers, nearly one crore are to pay the deposit. ``Elaborate arrangements were made for issuing the notice and by now, all consumers would have received it'', sources in the board say, adding that many consumers, who received it, had made the payment. Still, if some have not received the notice, they can get information from the EB staff at the respective offices. The circular stated that the Superintending Engineers concerned should verify and send confirmatory reports regarding preparation and issuance of the notices. The officials also said there was no proposal to change the meter reading practice to thrice a year from once in two months currently in vogue. There was no excess collection under the bi-monthly system, as calculation of the charges was based on monthly consumption and the slab-wise tariff accordingly, the officials clarified.
