Rupee ends at new low

MUMBAI APRIL 8. The rupee again ended at a record low of 48.89/90 a dollar today after renewed heavy dollar demand from banks, cut short a brief two-session rally in active trading at the interbank foreign exchange market.

Declining by five paise from last Friday's finish of 48.8400/8450, the rupee weakened from the onset of business following a soft opening of 48.8450/8550 and gradually moved down on steady dollar demand, even as dollar supplies accumulated over the weekend partly cushioned the fall, dealers said.

The rupee had earlier logged the same record low close of 48.89/90 on April 3 and had plunged to all time low of 48.94/95 in intraday deals on April 4.
