Mantralayam seer lists his priorities

By Our Staff Correspondent

BELLARY April 8. Suvidhendra Swamiji, who was appointed the junior swamiji of the Raghavendra Swamy Math, Mantralayam, recently has that he did not expect to be made successor of the math.

The swamiji, along with the senior swamiji, Sushmeendra Tirtha, who were on their way to Mantralayam, made a brief halt in Bellary on Sunday.

"I was associated with the math as an `asthaana pandit.' However, it was not too unexpected. I was mentally prepared for that when there were talks on who should be appointed the successor," he told presspersons.

"As I was closely associated with the swamijis right from the age of seven, I was aware of the `sanyasa jeevana'", he added.

Answering a question, Sri Suvidhendra Swamiji said there was no binding with regard to the appointment of successors at a particular place. He said there were several instances of successors being appointed outside Mantralayam, and added that he was not the first to be appointed as successor who belonged to the other "gotra."

On the controversy over his selection, and some people deciding to move the court against the appointment, the junior swamiji said that there was no controversy, but if some people wanted to go to the court, they could do so.

The swamiji called for better relations between the Raghavendra Swamy Math and the Uttaradi Math, and expressed confidence that their differences would be ironed out.

Raja Rajagopalacharya, diwan of the math, who was also present, said that Satyatma Tirtha Swamiji of the Uttaradi Math, called on the new swamiji and complimented him on his appointment.

The swamiji said his priorities include developing Sri Gurusarva Bhouma Vidyapeetha, publishing books, translation of good works, conducting summer camps for students, and imparting education on "dharma."

"There is dharma shraddha among people, but the facilities are lacking." The religious heads should camp in taluk headquarters and conduct summer camps for students and the youth, he said.

Earlier, a warm welcome was accorded to Sri Suvidhendra Swamiji here. Hundreds of devotees thronged the Raghavendra Swamy Math to have his "darshan" and also that of the senior swamiji. They also had "mudra dharana" from the new swamiji.
