Sumit wins East Asian tourney

NEW DELHI APRIL 8. Sumit Prakash Gupta continued with his fine run and clinched the singles title in the ITF East Asian under-14 tennis tournament in Jakarta last week.

The 13-year-old Sumit had won two singles titles in the ITF South and Central Asian circuit here recently to get selected into the ITF team for the East Asian circuit.

Sumit beat Sri Lankan Franklyn Emmanuel 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to clinch the title.

He also made it to the doubles semifinals with compatriot Jeevan Nedunchezian, and the programme could not be completed last week because of inclement weather. The doubles matches will be completed during the second tournament being played at the same place this week.
