The woman, Sumathi, was strangled by Munusamy who worked in her office, she said. Munusamy had gone to Sumathi's house as she had promised to give him Rs.500. Later, he had strangled her and escaped with Rs.10,000 in cash, a silk saree, and jewellery. Police had arrested Munusamy who had been absconding and obtained a confession from him, she added. Ms. Jayalalithaa complimented the police for identifying the culprit and arresting him. Earlier, she received the police officials who had solved the case at the Secretariat and expressed her appreciation for their work.
