Hurriyat blamed for killings in Kashmir

By Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR APRIL 10. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Farooq Abdullah, today accused the All-Party Hurriyat Conference of being responsible for the killing of thousands of people in the State. Addressing a public meeting in Budgam, Dr. Abdullah criticised the Hurriyat leaders for "misleading the people and bringing miseries to them".

"Those who were talking about freedom from India are now courting the Centre and seeking petty favours like a passport,'' he said.

After taking over the Government in 1996, he had advised the separatist leaders to shun the path of violence and join hands in rebuilding the State.
