Haven't quit: Suresh Prabhu

By Mahesh Vijapurkar

MUMBAI April 10. Though the Shiv Sena has sought and secured the resignation of Suresh Prabhu, who now holds the energy portfolio in the Vajpayee Government as the party's nominee, Bal Thackeray, Shiv Sena supreme, denied any such step had been taken. Soon thereafter, Mr. Prabhu himself told a television channel that there were no differences nor resignation and then made himself unavailable.

Mr. Prabhu's inability to meet the political requirements of Mr. Thackeray, is said to have earned his displeasure. Top Sena leaders think that Mr. Prabhu has got as reprieve because of the leak of the resignation having been taken from him and also because of some pulls and counter-pulls within the key elements involved in the palace intrigues around Mr. Thackeray.
