Cong. to hold training camps in other zones

VIJAYAWADA April 12. Buoyed by the success of the Paritala training programme, the APCC has decided to conduct training camps for workers in other zones as well to enable the party take on the TDP more effectively.

Speaking to newspersons here today, the State president of training programmes, Paladugu Venkatarao, said that a training camp would be held near Ongole for three days from May 4 for the party workers of Zone three consisting of Nellore, Prakasam and Guntur districts besides Guntur city. Senior Congress leader Arjun Singh would inaugurate the camp.

Former Union Minister P. Shiv Shankar has agreed to address the delegates. Besides former Chief Minister N. Janardhana Reddy, the APCC President, M. Satyanarayana Rao, CLP leader Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Mysoora Reddy, K. Rosaiah and other leaders would speak on different subjects.

Drawing lessons from Paritala, the organisers have decided to restrict the entry only for delegates and the camp would be conducted in a more orderly manner bringing in a classroom atmosphere.

Later, training camp would be held at Visakhapatnam for workers of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts besides Visakha Urban committee towards the end of May or early June. AICC general secretary Ambika Soni would inaugurate the programme. Kapil Sibal has agreed to address the camp.

Mr. Venkatarao expressed happiness that Paritala camp helped the party leaders "expose'' the bunglings of the TDP Government in the financial and power sectors. They could corner their rival for introducing Janmabhoomi programme to undermine the elected sarpanches. He thanked the press and electronic media for giving wide and unbiased coverage for the three-day programme.

He said that the Congress would accept the challenge of the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, to make Janmabhoomi an electoral issue. He explained that the Congress would redraw the programme to make the officials go to villages and redress their grievances while allowing the panchayats to play their role without any interference from officials.

Mr. Venkatarao criticised the Chief Minister for "over-reacting'' to Paritala camp as he feared that it helped the senior party leaders educate the cadre on vital economic and political issues and they would in turn spread the message among the people.
