Opinion - Letters to the Editor

A united fight

Sir, — The message to the nation from Goa is very clear; the `Gujarat carnage' is only a beginning. If Narendra Modi gets the mandate and the BJP gets the votes of the hard-core Hindus, can anyone imagine the outcome? The mere thought may chill the blood of intellectuals and secularists, and the educated people in cities and towns. But what about the ignorant masses in the villages who will be incited, brain-washed, divided, exploited and sacrificed at the altar of religion, caste etc., just for the sake of capturing power?

It is not the RSS alone but many fanatics from other parties, including the Congress, who have strengthened the BJP's hands. It is no wonder that Nehru and Sardar Patel foresaw the danger to this democratic secular nation and banned the RSS. The public, especially the educated and enlightened, must awake and arise to unite the secular Indians to check fascist and fanatic elements.

Padma Shetty,
Chennai
