Letters to the Editor
Sir, The article `Godhra revisited' by Jyoti Punwani, (April 15): When there are any number of trains and other modes of transport connecting religious places, the question is why target the Sabarmati Express? And why on that day? Though the article is not exhaustive, it does indicate that the random spark that ignited the communal tragedy was the attack on a Muslim vendor and the attempted molestation of a young girl by hooligans travelling in the coach. Though the Government has announced its own investigation, it is common knowledge that these are slow in coming up with facts. It is time the press had journalists specialising on sensitive issues that have the potential of snowballing into large conflagrations. This can put to rest rumours, and political leaders would not be able to muddy the waters of communal amity to achieve their own ends.
