Ferrero in quarterfinals

Monte Carlo April 18. Second-seeded Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero moved into the quarterfinals of the $2.45 million ATP Monte Carlo Masters on Thursday after Chilean opponent Marcelo Rios retired with a knee injury.

Mahesh also loses in first round

The Indian challenge came to a surprisingly quick end, as the fourth-seeded Mahesh Bhupathi in partnership with Jeff Tarango of the U.S. lost 1-6, 6-7 (4-7) to Arnaud Clement and Nicolas Escude of France in the first round. Leander had lost in the first round ealrier with John-Laffnie De Jager of South Africa.
