Dacoit gangs strike near Bangalore

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE April 18. Two gangs of dacoits looted Kodak company warehouse and two houses on the outskirts of the city early today and made away with a huge consignment of cameras worth Rs. 15 lakhs, and gold jewellery and cash worth Rs. one lakh.

The dacoits attacked 10 persons with weapons in three incidents in the jurisdiction of the Bangalore Rural District police.

While Bangalore Rural District Superintendent of Police, Bhaskar Rao, said that cameras worth about Rs. 15 lakhs were looted from the warehouse, the company put the value of the property at Rs. 50 lakhs. Around 1.30 a.m., a 20-member gang, armed with swords and clubs, which came in a truck, entered the premises of the warehouse located at Electronic City in Hebbugodi Police Station limits by climbing the rear compound. They assaulted two security guards, gagged them, and locked them in a bathroom. They broke into the godown, loaded the cameras on to the truck, and fled. Four security guards from a neighbouring factory, who came to the warehouse, were also assaulted and locked up in the bathroom by the gang.

Mr. Rao said that a consignment of cameras brought from the Kodak's manufacturing unit at Pilagumba Industrial Estate near Hoskote was unloaded at the warehouse on Wednesday evening. The dacoits took away the entire consignment. They had spared some of the expensive cameras, CDs, chemicals, and film rolls.

Another gang struck at the houses of K.T.Krishnappa at Karlur and that of S.N.Raja, at Samatenahalli in Kadugodi Police Station limits between 12.30 a.m. and 2.30 a.m.
