`Sakthi Puraskar' given away

CHENNAI April 18 . The ``Tamil Nadu Stree Sakthi Puraskar'' awards announced by the State Government recently were given away by the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, to five persons working for the women's cause.

The award includes a gold medallion, certificate of appreciation, and a cheque for Rs.10,000 were presented to the All-India Women's Association president, Sarojini Varadappan, the All-India Working Women's Association president, Jaya Arunachalam, the Padma Seshadri Balabhavan administrator, Y. G. Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy, the Avvai Illam administrator, Mathanki Krishnamurthy, and the All-India Children Welfare Association president, Andal Damodaran.

Keeping in line with ``Stree Sakthi Puraskar'' awards given by the Centre, the State evaluates women working for women's emancipation and sends the names of those selected to the Centre.
