DMK councillor held for Jayakumar murder

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI April 18. A DMK councillor was arrested in connection with the murder of Jayakumar, a party functionary, at Anna Nagar here last night and remanded to judicial custody today.

The police commissioner, K.Vijay Kumar, said the arrested person was Dhanasekar, KK Nagar division DMK secretary and 130 division councillor.

Jayakumar, stated to be close to senior DMK leaders, was reported missing by his brother on October 15 last. Only after three persons were arrested in connection with the kidnap and murder of the former MLA M.K.Balan, did it come to light that Jayakumar was also murdered. Sendhilkumar, Haribabu and a taxi driver, Samikannu, picked up in connection with Balan's murder, allegedly confessed also to their involvement in the murder of Jayakumar.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Jayakumar's murder was linked to a financial transaction involving Dhanasekar, Sendhilkumar and others.

Dhanasekar was assured party ticket for the Assembly election as part of the financial deal. However as Dhanasekar did not get the ticket, a quarrel arose and it led to the murder of Jayakumar, the police said.
