Bakht sworn in Governor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM April 18. Sikander Bakht was today sworn in as Governor of Kerala at a simple and solemn function at the Raj Bhavan. The Kerala Chief Justice, B N Srikrishna, administered the oath of office to Mr Bakht.

Mr Bakht took a solemn oath. The Chief Minister, A K Antony, the Finance Minister, K Sankaranarayanan, the Revenue Minister, K M Mani, the Industries and IT Minister, P K Kunhalikutty, the Water Resources Minister, T M Jacob, the Forest Minister, K Sudhakaran, the Labour Minister, Babu Divakaran, the Tourism and Fisheries Minister, K V Thomas, the Health Minister, P Sankaran, the SC/ST welfare Minister, M A Kuttappan, the Education Minister, Nalakath Soopy, the Agriculture Minister, K.R. Gouri, and the Speaker, Vakkom Purushothaman, attended the function.

The BJP was represented by its State president, C K Padmanabhan, and the secretary, P P Mukundan. M A Baby was the only representative of the CPI(M). Several MLAs also attended the function.

Mr Bakht was given a warm and ceremonial red carpet reception at the airport soon on arrival in the forenoon. The Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials were present. The Chief Minister presented his Cabinet colleagues to the Governor soon after the swearing in ceremony.
