New virus hits computers

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI APRIL 18. An `invisible' Internet virus affected about 45,000 computers in the country today and is spreading rapidly, software professionals said here.

The virus, Klez.H, comes as email attachments. It is activated as soon as the email is opened, irrespective of whether the attachment is opened. It overwrites certain files based on dates and disables anti-virus programmes. The worm spreads through servers and unpatched Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express versions. www.microsoft.com.

Klez.H can be deleted manually by locating files beginning with wink*.exe. A free utility is available at www.fireantivirus.com or www.fireav.com.
