Narasimha Rao's book presented to President

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI APRIL 20. The first copy of the former Prime Minister, P. V. Narasimha Rao's book, `A Long Way', was presented to the President, K. R. Narayanan, by the author at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Friday.

Describing the book as a "historic one in our historic time'', the President said the tone and tenor was set in the first chapter itself wherein Mr. Rao had written about secularism, non-alignment and removal of poverty.

Referring to Mr. Rao's musings on opening avenues for the younger generation and tapping the genius of people, Mr. Narayanan said his former colleague in the Union Cabinet had these convictions when the economic reforms were undertaken on a large-scale in 1991.

Among those who attended the function were the former Finance Minister, Manmohan Singh, and the former Election Commissioner, G. V. G. Krishnamurthy.
