NEW DELHI APRIL 22. The Sri Lankan President, Chandrika Kumaratunga, arrived here today for a wide-exchange of views with the Indian leadership in the backdrop of the possibility that peace talks between the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE may begin.

India has opposed secession in Sri Lanka and has stated that a solution of the Tamil question must conform to Sri Lanka's status of a territorially united and sovereign nation. At the same time, New Delhi has advocated that the aspirations of all ethnic communities in Sri Lanka should be met so that a lasting solution can be found through negotiations.

Ms. Kumaratunga this evening held talks with the External Affairs Minister, Jaswant Singh, as well as the former Prime Minister, I. K Gujral. Detailed discussions with the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, are slated for Wednesday. Ms. Kumaratunga will deliver the first Madhavrao Scindia memorial lecture on Tuesday.
