Customs website hacked, CBI registers case

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI APRIL 24. The official website of the Customs and Central Excise department —

www.cbec.gov.in — has been hacked by a group identifying itself as the "Anti-India Crew".

The hacker-group defaced the home page of the CBEC website and posted hate slogans on it. On a complaint, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case under provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

According to a CBI spokesman, it was for the first time that a Government department had lodged such a complaint. The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell had launched a probe.

Over the past few months, the group has hacked more than 120 Indian sites; more than 30 sites were hacked this month alone. The sites, which the group claims to have hacked, are that of VSNL, CMC, AIR, JNU, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Roorkee University, AIIMS and South Central Railways.
