The recruitment is being undertaken through yet another round of District Selection Committee examination named "DSC- 2002.'' Notification for this will be issued on May 5 and applications for the examination will be issued up to May 20. The written examination will be held on June 14, 15 and 16. The posting orders will be issued from July 15. The key to questions will be released and candidates can seek revaluation. These details were given by the Primary Education Minister, M. Venkateswara Rao, and the School Secretary and the Commissioner, I. V. Subba Rao, and Manmohan Singh respectively, at a press conference here on Wednesday. The Minister said of the 31,270 teachers being recruited, 6,322 would be for 7,351 primary schools, 8,704 for 4,352 upper primary schools, 7,571 for filling the backlog vacancies, 7,600 for retirement vacancies, and 1,053 for tribal areas. In reply to a question, Mr. Venkateswara Rao said under the present DSC, there would be no weightage marks to anybody for higher qualification or time gap as, a policy decision was taken removing this feature once and for all. The Minister said, the SCs and STs could attempt the DSC even if they did not possess B.Ed/SGT qualification. He allayed fears of lack of quality from them on this account, saying that they would be given training after selections before being posted. He said about 40,000-50,000 Vidya volunteers would also be recruited in June-July. The Government was contemplating minimising other duties given to them so that they would be able to concentrate better on teaching. About the teacher transfers, Mr. Venkateswara Rao said as per the schedule finalised, the teacher posts would be rationalised from May 7 to 10 keeping in view of the student strength. The transfers of school assistants and equivalent cadres would be effected on May 18 and 19, the promotions to them on May 20 and 21 and the transfers of SGT and equivalent cadres on May 23 to 27. Meanwhile, the State Convener for DIET CET-2002 issued a press note here, extending the last dates for sale and receipt of applications to April 30 and May 1 respectively. This has been done in view of the demand made by candidates.
