Letters to the Editor
Sir, As New Delhi rejects foreign interference in Gujarat, the controversy over whether foreign Governments can interfere in the communal clashes in India is open. Where were all these people when thousands of Hindus were either massacred or forced to flee with their belongings in Kashmir? It is time that the Government of India makes it clear that we do accept the moral authority of the democracies and secular societies all around the globe to be concerned about the communal situation in Gujarat or in Jammu and Kashmir or in any part of India but, at the same time, New Delhi should reject the moral authority of the theocracies and monarchies to interfere in the internal matters of our country. The Government should not hesitate to mention that the moral duty rather than moral authority of the democracies and secular societies to interfere should not begin and end with the Gujarat episode.
Dileep George Cheruvallil,
