The bomb, which officials said appeared to have been equipped with a timer, went off shortly before midday near the entrance to the market in the North Ossetian capital of Vladikavkaz. "We now have information about seven people being killed," a local police spokesman said by telephone. North Ossetia, home to Russia's biggest military base in the region, is a neighbour of Russia's rebel Chechnya region. The bombing occurred two days after Russia's FSB domestic security police released footage of the body of one of Russia's most feared and reviled Chechen warlords, Khattab, who was born in Jordan. The FSB said the Arab rebel was killed in a special operation.
