This includes handling of ABB's sophisticated in-house IT infrastructure, managing and operating the data centre, providing end user support, overall network management, disaster recovery services, technical support of business applications and continuous updating of IT infrastructure. Outlining the advantages of this partnership to his company, Ravi Uppal, Managing Director and Country Manager, ABB India, said, "We can now concentrate on our core businesses. It helps us gain operational efficiencies and allows us to remain at the cutting edge of information technology. We will be able to use our IT infrastructure more efficiently and economically". According to Abraham Thomas, Managing Director, IBM India, the agreement is a long term one, exceeding five years. The manpower resources of ABB India's IT infrastructure, numbering around 40, will be transferred to IBM and will form part of the 50 member IBM team,which will look after this project. He added that this trend of outsourcing IT functions is gaining ground in India, not only among the MNC subsidiaries but also Indian companies.
