MUMBAI May 2. At least 31 bus passengers were burnt alive in an accident while on their way to the pilgrimage centre of Shirdi in Maharashtra. Twenty-nine suffered severe burns.

The accident occurred at Kadke Phata, 61 km from Ahmednagar. Sources said the axle of the bus broke loose and rammed the diesel tank and ignited it.

The bus rammed a tree and overturned. The fuel tank caught fire and exploded and the flames engulfed the vehicle.
