Kaifi Azmi dead

Mumbai May 10 . Well-known Urdu poet and a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, Kaifi Azmi, died here today after prolonged illness. Kaifi, 82, is survived by wife, Shaukat, actress daughter, Shabana and a son.

The President, K.R. Narayanan, and the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, have condoled the death of Kaifi, saying in his passing away the country has lost a remarkable personality of modern India.
