Prizes to essay contest winners

Pondicherry May 10. The Education and Tourism Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, today gave away cash awards to essay contest winners. The contests were conducted during the last academic year in schools and colleges under a scheme of the Union Home Ministry to cover subjects on national integration and communal harmony.

Contests were held separately in the four regions _ Pondicherry, Karaikal Mahe and Yanam _ for students from 9th to 12th standards. State-level competition was held for college students, a communication from the Education department said.

The Minister gave away prizes to the Pondicherry region students under three categories. The prizes related to essays written in English and Tamil. State-level prizes for college students were also given away.
