A section of the Pakistani press has been raising questions about the continuation of the treaty, ever since the latest round of hostilities between India and Pakistan after the December 13 Parliament attack. A few days ago, the Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman, Aziz Ahmed Khan, sought to allay apprehensions that there was any danger to the treaty. It appears that New Delhi has communicated the dates for the commission meeting to the authorities in Pakistan. This would be the 37th meeting between the two commissioners since the signing of the Indus Water Treaty in 1960. The last meeting was held in Islamabad in May 2001.Pakistan intends to raise its concerns about alleged Indian violations of the treaty at the meeting.
