Chirac sworn in

PARIS MAY 16. Jacques Chirac was officially invested as President of France today for a new mandate of five years.

In a ceremony at the Elysee palace, the president of the country's constitutional council, Yves Guena, proclaimed the results of the election on May 5 and formally reinstated Mr. Chirac in office.
