He was 82 and is survived by his son, Rajkumar, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. His condition had improved on Saturday night, but deteriorated this morning and the end came at around 7 a.m., family sources said. The octogenarian leader was admitted to the hospital on Saturday afternoon, when he suffered a massive heart attack at the Y.B. Chavan Auditorium in South Mumbai, minutes before the annual general body meeting of the Pradesh Congress Committee attended by the newly-appointed AICC General Secretary in-charge of Maharashtra, Vyalar Ravi, was to begin. The mortal remains were taken to his residence in Churchgate and later to the MPCC headquarters at Tilak Bhavan to enable party workers pay their last respects. The body is being flown to his hometown, Nagpur, this evening, where the funeral will be held on Monday at 11 a.m., the MPCC general secretary, Sanjay Dutt, said.
