Osama caught alive on video

London May 19. In what could be the first hard evidence of Osama bin Laden surviving U.S.-led attacks in Afghanistan, the world's most wanted fugitive, is seen in a video singling out Britain as a terrorist target.

The 40-minute video includes an interview with the Al-Qaeda leader, recorded after the start of the West's offensive in Afghanistan.

Another short section of the encrypted video containing previously unseen footage of the fugitive shows him speaking about martyrdom against the backdrop of a fertile plain and hills filmed eight weeks ago, The Sunday Times reported. The video, claimed to have been filmed in March, shows Osama sitting under a tree on what appears to be a pleasant spring evening.

``If true, it would provide the first evidence that he had survived the recent allied attacks on the Tora Bora mountain,'' the report said.

The film's existence is revealed as U.S. intelligence agencies reported a series of communications among Al-Qaeda members that suggest the organisation is plotting to carry out an operation at least as big as the September 11 attacks.
