U.S. not happy with decision on envoy

Washington May 20. The United States today made a veiled criticism of India's decision to have the Pakistani High Commissioner to New Delhi, Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, recalled and said resorting to military action might not be the most effective means to fight terrorism. The State Department spokesman, Richard Boucher said New Delhi's move on Mr. Qazi would ``make it more difficult to have dialogue.''

``The U.S. will encourage the two countries to continue the dialogue and not cut off channels,'' he said.

Replying to a questioner who asked why India cannot resort to military action against the terrorists in its backyard, when the U.S. is not objecting to Israeli action against Palestinian militants and Washington itself is fighting in Afghanistan against terrorists, he said: ``You cannot make simple comparisons. You have to deal with each situation.''
