He is Narasimhaiah, a former employee of the Indian Telephone Industries Ltd. His "Village Defence Party'', a voluntary night patrol organisation which operates at Krishnarajapuram and Ramamurthy Nagar, has celebrated its silver jubilee. Established in 1976, the Village Defence Party operates at night to prevent crime, including dacoity. The organisation, which completed 250 night patrols last year and aims at undertaking 300 this year, works in association with the local police. In recognition of his service, he was conferred the title of "Dalapathy'' by the Commissioner of Police in 1979. The list of his achievements is quite long. He has been presented with 30 police certificates and 17 cups/shields from police and voluntary organisations. His name has been included in the Who's Who in the Asia and Pacific Nations published in England. He has been conferred the "Distinguished Leadership Award' by the ABI and IBC Biographic Society of England and the U.S. It has also enrolled him in an advisory committee. In 2000, the State Government honoured him with a Rajyotsava Award. His organisation has won the "Police Commissioner's shield.'' Addressing presspersons, Mr. Narasimhaiah said his aim was to free society from crime, and citizens must take steps on their own and be conscious of their own safety.
